There's many options now if you want a multicopter, but it's still handy to be able to fabricate components to fit your specific #drones applications. There's fewer options for fixed-wing mapping aircraft, and so design and fabrication becomes even more important.

Here's details of how I used open-sourced software and a laser cutter at a community fabrication laboratory to make the parts I needed to get the job done.
