Great to see Jeff Robbins supporting ISTAS13 yet again for the nth year in a row! Jeff your support means a great deal to SSIT! You are one of those guys I think about who were instrumental in making SSIT gather momentum at critical times. I enjoyed also the In Memoriam you wrote on the late Walter Zessner. http://veillance.me/blog/2013/1/7/jeff-robbins-profile-page

This morning Jeff and I had correspondence on the notion of "datasexuals" as described in the new book by Evgeny Morozov, "To Save Everything, Click Here: The Folly of Technological Solutionism." Very timely email Jeff! I just completed re-reading Michael Eldred's piece (PC Committee of ISTAS13) for the June 2013 T&S Magazine edition. Michael's piece is titled: "Technology, Technique, Interplay: Questioning Die Frage nach der Technik." Can't wait to hear your talk at ISTAS!

  1. Chapter Eight, "The Superhuman Condition", begins with "Long before the Quantified Self movement, Gordon Bell, a high-level Microsoft engineer, was already recording every single detail of his time on Earth..."

  2. Chapter Seven, "Galton's iPhone" begins with "The future belongs to datasexuals... Datasexuals are to Silicon Valley what hipsters are to Brooklyn: both are ubiquitous and, after a certain point,
annoying. These days one has to search really hard to find daily
activities that are not being tracked and recorded..."

  3. Are you a 'datasexual'? Reminds me of the idea of a data scientist within the big data world... but I am sure carries numerous connotations. What is your definition of a datasexual? Can datasexuality mess up human and non-human relationships?
