Rest easy, beltless yard workers, the New Hampshire House of Representatives is on the case! (Sort of.) The very idea of robots surveiling us from the sky is creepy. It sounds like something George Orwell would warn us against if he were alive today – and a Hollywood screenwriter. Yet on Wednesday the House tabled a bill that would have prohibited the use of drones in New Hampshire skies for the purposes of surveillance and attack. Why? Ah, details, details. http://www.suasnews.com/2013/03/21973/the-drone-ban-little-jimmy-the-spy/

Originally shared by Gary Mortimer McDonnell’s suggested amendments to House Bill 2012 and Senate Bill 1331 would allow for drone research at college and universities and would let law enforcement officials use drones for certain tasks, such as search and rescue. Check out Jean-Gabriel Ganascia's latest book in French "Voir et pouvoir: qui nous surveille?". It explores the ethical and political structure of our contemporary society. Expect post production tools to catch up with airframe sophistication over the next couple of years. I can see $1000 airframes and $1000 software suites doing the work of today's $70000 systems. Fields of View, an aerial imaging technology company specializing in agriculture, recently released their GeoSnap product line that integrates tightly with Tetracam multispectral cameras. GeoSnap products allow users to generate the succinct image-correlated position/attitude data that is required to perform direct georeferencing. Multispectral data seekers and payload integrators now have a turn-key position/attitude data solution that simplifies the process of converting captured images into useable maps of crop health.  http://www.suasnews.com/2013/03/21891/new-geosnap-products-from-field-of-view-streamline-multispectral-mapping/

Replace The Postal System With Drones?

Replace The Postal System With Drones? Here's an optionally-manned helicopter called the K-MAX that already has delivered over 3 million pounds of cargo since entering service in late 2011. That's a fascinating fact, but also frustrating, since the cargo was meant for warfare. What if these unmanned aircraft were dropping food aid all over the globe, instead? http://surprise-project.eu/ - SurPRISE re-examines the relationship between security and privacy, which is commonly positioned as a ‘trade-off’. Where security measures and technologies involve the collection of information about citizens, questions arise as to whether and to what extent their privacy has been infringed. This infringement of individual privacy is sometimes seen as an acceptable cost of enhanced security. Similarly, it is assumed that citizens are willing to trade off their privacy for enhanced personal security in different settings. This common understanding of the security-privacy relationship, both at state and citizen level, has informed policymakers, legislative developments and best practice guidelines concerning security developments across the EU. http://surprise-project.eu/
