I decided to write it up incorporating some quick thoughts on the NBN as it applies to this area co-joining it as foundation of my presentation topic at the Sixth Workshop on the Social Implications of National Security - Sousveillance and the Social Implications of Point of View Technologies in the Law Enforcement Sector to be held on the 22 February 2012 between 9.15am-5pm at the New Law Building Level 4, Faculty Common Room, Eastern Avenue The University of Sydney as noted in the Uberveillance website.
Here is my entry that I will post of today for re-editing:
The Australian Federal Government has recently published “The National Digital Economy Strategy” providing a vision for the infrastructure, service rollout and access to funding for all sectors in Australia.
According to the ‘Australian Digital Economy: Futures Directions’ paper the digital economy refers to:
the global network of economic and social activities that are enabled by information and communications technologies, such as the internet, mobile and sensor networks
Of particular interest to Alexander Hayes, University of Wollongong PhD.Candidate in the Faculty of Informatics, School of Information Sciences and Technology is the inclusion of ubiquitous broadband service supporting high definition video streaming noted as:
or through the increased use of bandwidth intensive applications such as high-definition video for interactive instruction and learning
With reference to the education sector and according to the Australian Government National Broadband Network (NBN Co) website the Digital Economy Goal for 2020 will include:
Australian schools, TAFEs, universities and higher education institutions will have the connectivity to develop and collaborate on innovative and flexible educational services and resources to extend online learning resources to the home and workplace; and the facilities to offer students and learners, who cannot access courses via traditional means, the opportunity for online virtual learning
Alexander Hayes will provide an account at (....Sixth Workshop on the Social Implications of National Security “Sousveillance and the Social Implications of Point of View Technologies in the Law Enforcement Sector” February 22nd 2011 ....) the emergent concept of geolocation as a learning activity validation in an educational and law enforcement context, referencing the rapid uptake of location enabled wearable technologies by educators, organizations supporting the activities of these trained professionals and the implications and risks inherent with these activities in an Australian education or workplace training setting.
